Reading the Heart Sutra

The Heart Sutra speaks about the body and the things we experience through it.

It names form, feeling, perception, mental formations and consciousness: the five aggregates. These are familiar parts of experience, brought together for close examination.

The sutra describes them as empty of a fixed nature. This points to how they depend on conditions. A feeling arises with an experience; it changes as the conditions change.

The text moves quickly through several Buddhist teachings. Reading it alongside a teacher's commentary can help with the terms and the questions behind them.
